PH Blu Girls makes an impressive start at Women Softball Asia Cup

MANILA, Philippines-The Philippine Blu Girls defeated Hong Kong and host South Korea on Sunday to open their campaign at the Asian Women’s Softball Cup in Incheon, South Korea.
Blu Girls needed just five innings to beat Hong Kong 7-0 before knocking out South Korea 2-0 on the opening day of the tournament held at Songdo LNG Baseball Stadium.
Sharing an identical record with China and Chinese Taipei with a score of 2-0, the Filipino players soon qualified for the Women’s World Softball Championship starting later this year.
The three World Cup spots are allocated in the continental tournament, which will see the top four teams from the preliminary round progress to the semi-finals.
The third inning lasted five innings allowing the Blu Girls to take control of the match against Hong Kong and aid in starter Glory Alonzo’s excellent pitch.
Alonzo only conceded three goals and hit two in a completely closed match for the Philippines.
In the second game, the Blu Girls broke the tie at the end of the fifth game when Alaiza Talsik doubled the lead in the center left, scoring for Khrisna Cantor, who took the lead.
Thrower Mary Ann Antolihao received another running assist in the sixth inning as Cantor hit singles to score runner Danica Aquino from third place.
Antolihao dropped five shots and beat two South Koreans when he threw all seven rounds for the Philippines.
