Predictions for victory for Serbia’s populist president

BELGRADE, SERBIA – Early predictions from pollsters suggest Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and his populist far-right party will win Sunday’s national elections.

That would prolong a decade-long period of authoritarian rule in the Balkan nation. IPSOS and CESID polls have proven reliable in previous Serbian polls. They predict Vucic will end up with almost 60% of the vote.

If that is confirmed in the official vote count, Vucic will win outright for a second five-year term and without a vote.

Pollsters also predict that Vucic’s Serbian Radical Party will win the most votes in the parliamentary vote, with about 43 percent, followed by the opposition group United for Victory of Serbia with about 13 percent.
