MANILA, Philippines — Cebuanas Deanna Wong and Sisi Rondina are delighted to compete together at Choco Mucho in the 2023 English Premier League Volleyball Invitational Conference (PVL).
Rondina shone on her PVL debut with the highest 14 points in the game, while Wong had an excellent eight sets and shot five aces to finish with eight points in their match. 25-14, 25-7, 25-16 won against Farm Fresh on Thursday at the FilOil EcoOil Center in San Juan City.
“Actually, nakakatuwa kasi is another addition to the makatulong sa team. Last year pa dapat siya sa diba pero team due to unforeseen circumstances hindi natuloy. Really grateful to kasi before the magic napagusapan namin teammates from our home province of Cebu,” Wong said after the match.
(That’s good; because he’s another addition that can help our team. She was supposed to join us last year, but due to unforeseen circumstances didn’t make it through. yes. I’m grateful that we talked earlier about both joining from our home province of Cebu.)
Rondina, who is back in the house after four years, wants to transform every play by Wong, who was her opponent in UAAP when the University of Santo Tomas and Ateneo clashed in the 2019 Season 81 final.
“Honestly, gusto ko iparamdam kay Deanna na maganda siya magset. Ganun ako every setter na kasama ko gusto ko iparamdam sa kanya na ang ganda ng set mo; Kahit pinapalo gusto ko pinupuntos ko kaagad. Kumbaga, hindi ako makakapalo kung wala yung setter. Ganun yung gusto ko iparamdam sa kanya,” said the 5-foot-6 player.
(Honestly, I want Deanna to feel that her sets are good. That’s how I treat every setter I play with, I always want them to feel that they gave me a good set. That’s it. why I always want to score immediately. I can’t spike without a setter, that’s what I want them to feel.)
The young tennis player praised the impact Rondina has had on their team so far.
“Nagkakaconnect agad tapos nagkakaintindihan should be really grateful to na andyan siya kasi malaking tulong hindi lang through attack and defense as well as through what she learned dun nga sa international beach volleyball. Team tulong niya po sa,” she said.

(We connected and understood each other immediately. So I’m grateful she’s there because he’s been of great help to us, not only in attack and defense but also through what she does. She learned in international beach volleyball. She has been of great help to our team. )
Despite the overwhelming victory to start the Group B campaign, Wong emphasized that there is still a lot of work to be done.
“Masaya po kasi syempre nanalo pero Malayo pa yung pwede named maimprove,” she said.
(Of course we’re happy, but there’s still a lot of room for improvement.)
