A new report by Illumio find that organizations are taking advantage of unreliable segment prevent five major cyberattacks annually, saving more than $20 million in downtime costs.

During the past two years, digital transformation has greatly expanded the attack surface. Where IT was once a walled, on-premises technology environment, a modern IT architecture today includes on-premises, public, and multi-cloud. This increase in connectivity and increasing complexity has resulted in a significant increase in the number of vulnerable endpoint (for example, laptops) and the attack surface is getting wider. In fact, in the last two years alone, 76% of organizations have been victims of a ransomware attack, and 66% have experienced at least one software supply chain attack.

Most surprising, the report found that 47% of security leaders do Not believe that they will be breached – despite attacks becoming more sophisticated and frequent and zero-trust adoption rates increasing (though “assumption of breach” is a core principle of zero-trust ).

The Zero-Trust segment saves $20 million in application downtime, averts 5 network disasters, and accelerates 14 digital transformation projects annually.

Furthermore, the report found that 81% of organizations agree that the zero-trust segment plays an important role in driving broader zero-trust efforts. According to ESG, organizations classified as advanced segment users are 2.1 times more likely to have avoided a major outage in the past 24 months. These organizations are also consolidating their competitive edge with another 14 cloud and digital transformation projects planned over the next 12 months.

In short, this report is the latest to demonstrate that distrust, and specifically segmentation of distrust, are modern strategies for reducing risk and increasing resilience in cyberspace. Threats continue to grow and evolve.

Illumio commissioned ESG to conduct a global study of 1,000 people on the current state of Zero Trust strategies and the impact of the zero-trust segment (ZTS), a rapidly evolving technology and a state-of-the-art method to prevent breaches from spreading across hybrid IT (from the cloud to the data center).
