Augustinus Bader has been on my radar for a while, because I feel like everyone in the industry, every editor, and every celebrity is praising it from the rooftop. This brand has many lines of skin care products, but its main product is definitely The Cream ($280). And with a name like that, you know it’s going to be good. Famous, iconic single names (Beyonce, Madonna, Prince, etc.).

And celebrities like Hailey Bieber, Victoria Beckham and Jennifer Aniston all credit the brand. But before we get into how it works (and whether it’s worth it), let’s first learn a little bit of branding basics. Augustinus Bader isn’t just a brand – he’s a real person. Namely a globally renowned biomedical scientist and physician. Dr. Bader is one of the leading experts in regenerative medicine and he has spent most of his career working with burn victims and researching ways to heal fire-damaged skin. And within just a few years of the brand’s launch (in 2017), Augustinus Bader had won 150 prestigious industry awards—an unprecedented number at the time.
So now, the elephant in the room: Price. That’s $280 for 1.7 ounces (or $175 for 1 oz). Whenever I see skin care products with such high prices, I always think, well, this moisturizer also cleans my apartment better and buys me dinner. With a price like that, there should be some extra service included, right? But the fact is that the Augustinus Bader’s price tag is not too high compared to its luxury rivals. Take Cle de Peau’s La Creme Night Cream, for example, which costs $795 for 1.7 ounces. Hay La Mer Crème de la Mer, $380 for 2 oz. High-end serums and skin care products come at a premium because their cell-regenerating ingredients, unfortunately, don’t come cheap.

So basically, the main ingredient that does the heavy lifting here is the complex of the formula called Activating Factor Complex, or TFC-8. The complex itself is made up of at least 40 components including natural amino acids, vitamins and molecules. So it is this patented formula that sets it apart from all the rest (and justifies its price).
We reached out to board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Dendy Engelman, for a bit more analysis. “Augustinus Bader’s cream deeply moisturizes, conditions and refreshes. It makes the skin firm, vibrant and radiant, while stimulating collagen production and enhancing elasticity,” she explains. “Its key, proprietary ingredient, TFC8®, supports cell renewal, delivering key ingredients to the cell. Even people with oily or acne-prone skin can use this product without breakouts,” she adds.
My experience using The Cream
So now we have a little science class, on how I actually use this product and how it works. I apply a few drops to cleansed skin in an upward sweeping motion. I apply it day and night, and really don’t use much else in terms of skin products (except cleanser). Technically, you have to wait 27 days to see or feel visible results, as that is when cell turnover occurs. But even within two weeks, I have noticed more hydrated, plumper, smoother skin.
What I love most is the consistency. It absorbs immediately. I’m more wrong on the dry skin side, but even if you have oily or acne-prone skin, you won’t have a problem with this moisturizer. After more than two weeks of using it daily, I think the best word I can use to describe it is that it makes my skin feel more supple. Now, I’m not one to put too much faith in “before” and “after” photos when it comes to moisturizer. It’s too nuanced and difficult to capture in one photo, and has all the elements like lighting etc. But I have attached a photo of myself applying the product, so you can see the real thing up close. shop. My only bones to choose? It’s the kind that is both professional and deceptive. I think the packaging is exquisite. Some of the most stunning skincare packaging on the market. But the design of the bottle makes it hard to see how much product is left; It’s better for the brand after all, because if you can’t tell how much you’re using, you’re more likely to use up the product faster.
So while I recommend this, I have trouble getting editors to say “this is worth every penny.” I think editors who receive the product (like me) can’t really talk about the “coin” once they’ve received the product as editorial review. That said, I think this product is world class compared to others I’ve used, and if you’re looking to save money and take care of yourself (or get a very special gift for someone you love, don’t hesitate). love skin care), Augustinus Bader’s lotion is truly amazing. Now, I don’t know if it’s realistic to make it your daily moisturizer—at least not if you’re in the tax bracket like I am. But if you have the extra cash to spend on skin care, this is an incredible moisturizer.
I think this product totally deserves all the praise it has. I mean, this thing isn’t built on trash science—it was developed by a biochemist who studies burn remedies. So the bottom line? It totally deserves the hype. But don’t worry if you consider it a “very special treatment” compared to part of your monthly skincare budget.
