Sarah Michelle Gellar Breaks Silence in ‘Extremely Toxic’ Buffer: ‘Women pitted against each other’

Sarah Michelle Gellar finally opens up about her negative experiences on Buffy the vampire slayer the set.

The Evil intentions the star appeared at TheWrap‘S Women Empowerment Summit in Los Angeles on Wednesday, where she spoke at The Power of Storytelling: Producers Roundtable. It was here that she finally spoke up about the present creator of the infamous “toxic” workplace program Joss Whedon is said to be cultivated. Without naming names, she paints an all too obvious picture:

“For a long time, I was in a movie that I think is known to be an extremely toxic male film, and so it was ingrained in my mind that all films are like this. So, and that women pitted against each other – that if women were to be friends, we’d be too strong, so you’d have to keep that up.

Yes, unfortunately, that sounds in line with what we’ve heard about cushion, sadly – a show about women’s empowerment is notorious for doing the opposite behind the scenes. SMG continues:

“And now that I’ve had the opportunity to work with so many women and men who also support women, I realize how easy that experience can be, but unfortunately, we’re still where but all of those sections sometimes need to be women for us to have a say.”

We’re glad things got better — but as she points out, Hollywood is far from being fixed.

This was the first time Sarah herself spoke up. In 2020, Raywho played Cyborg in Alliance justice movie, accused Joss of “crude, abusive, unprofessional” behavior on the set of that movie. Joss assumes directing duties to monitor Zack Snyderfamily tragedy. Can you remember a WarnerMedia The investigation was opened, and Sarah cushion costar Prestigious Carpenter finally joined in February 2021.

Her problems with the presenter became legendary, and when she finally spoke out about them, she buried him. She accused him of “hostile and malicious conduct” on the set of the iconic show, as well as its spinoff, Angel. She said at the time:

“For almost two decades, I have kept quiet and even made excuses for some of the events that have traumatized me to this day. Joss Whedon has repeatedly abused his power while working on set. Buffy the vampire slayer and Angel. While he found his misbehavior amusing, it only added to my performance anxiety, frustrated me, and alienated me from my colleagues. The disturbing incidents caused a chronic physical condition that I still suffer from. I say I have dealt with a heavy and pounding heart in isolation and, at times, brutality.

Yes, we know… Worrying things. And other cushion Alumni have shown their support, with Michelle Trachtenberg even claimed to have a rule that she was not allowed to be alone in the room with the screenwriter. Oh.

Sarah followed up with a Instagram her own post in the same month, showing support for her co-star — but it’s important to never say anything about the set. She diplomatically wrote:

“While I am proud to have my name attached to Buffy Summers, I do not want to be forever associated with the name Joss Whedon. Right now I’m more focused on raising my family and surviving the pandemic, so I won’t make any further statements at this time. But I stand with all abuse survivors and am proud of them for speaking out.”

Three months later, DIFFERENT Alliance justice the star spoke up. Gal Gadotwho plays Wonder Woman, claimed the director “threatened” her career during the production of the film, prompting the 58-year-old woman to be charged even more.

Joss himself later broke his silence in January of this year, but instead of apologizing, he denied all allegations.

As for Sarah, she said cryptically New York Times back in September, she had her own “fair share of experience” as a woman in the industry but again chose not to elaborate. She noted:

“I don’t win by telling my stories, emotionally, to me. I looked at the people telling their stories, and I was impressed. But in this world where everyone is divided, victim-blamed and shamed, I just keep my stories here.

Challenging issue, but we’re glad SMG feels safe enough to provide some details right now. What do you think of her latest statements, readers of Perezcious? Let us know in the comments section below!
