Saturday night live is back from a hiatus with a bang (and a slap)!
The latest episode of the sketch comedy show saw the comedian Jerrod Carmichael take on the role of presenter and rapper Gunna serve as musical guests on weekends. And of course, SNL can’t help but bake Will Smith for the infamous slap Chris Rock above Oscar appears multiple times in the episode, from the chilling opening monologue to the “Weekend Update” and a hilarious sketch.
Starting the night, the show starts with a Fox and friends parody includes a call from James Austin Johnson‘S Donald Trump, to whom the co-hosts asked if he had seen the slap. And his answer? Well, he continues to call Will his 2005 romantic comedy Shove:
“You know, I saw a slap. I love slapping. I am very impressed with Hitch. Quite help Hitch. I always knew Hitch had an arm… It was, but it was also a sad night for Hitch. That kind of behavior won’t get Kevin James a date with Allegra Cole, I’ll tell you that. ”

After opening the cold door, Jerrod stepped up Studio 8 HOUSE stage for his debut monologue and spent most of his time mocking the film. And let’s just say, he made it clear that he was sick and tired of the endless speeches that came after it. Never mentioning Will, Chris or the word “slap”, the 34-year-old actor said:
“I won’t talk about it… I keep talking about it, you can’t make me talk about it. Do you want to talk about it? Aren’t you tired of talking about it? This will really blow your mind. Can you believe it has been six days? Six days! This happened a week ago,” he explained. “Isn’t it like it happened years ago? Like it’s not like it happened when we were all in high school? Like it feels like it happened between Jamiroquai and 9/11. A long time ago. It happened on Sunday. Sunday! Today is Saturday, man. ”
While Jerrod initially decided not to talk about the whole thing, SNL honcho’s head Lorne Michaels asked him to discuss it as “the nation in need of healing.” Watch his hilarious debut monologue (below):
As we mentioned before, the slap jokes don’t end there! In the “Weekend Updates” segment, the servers Michael Che and Colin Jost DO NOT hold back, completely rip off the 53-year-old man for hitting Chris. Colin, who is married to Scarlett Johansson, joking that Will has set “a terrible precedent for having to defend your wife at award shows.” He also likens the viral moment to Janet Jackson.’s infamous wardrobe malfunction Super Bowlspeak:
“I think we should just admit that it’s one of the craziest things we’ll ever see in our lives. It really is like the Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction, but if Janet’s nipples slap Timberlake.”
Meanwhile, Michael had mixed feelings about the matter, saying he’s tired of “people putting their insecurities on our jokes”:
“In his acceptance speech, Will Smith said, ‘Love will make you do crazy things. You know what else makes you do crazy things? Crazy! But I understand where Will comes from. I mean, you can’t expect him to sit there and watch another man jump all over his wife… without signing an NDA. Can we stop pretending that everyone knows Jada has hair loss? As we’ve heard about Jada and Will’s personal lives, you can’t expect us to hold back on everything. Like Kanye said, ‘Don’t act like you guys don’t know I have psoriasis.’ Just selfish as a comedian, I’m tired of people putting their insecurities on our joke intentions. ”
Colin and Michael also invited as guests to “Weekend Updates” to weigh in on the situation at one point, this time at Kenan Thompson equal OJ Simpson. See what he has to say about this and more (below):
And of course, SNL there must be an entire sketch dedicated to parodying the real slap! In the skit, Jerrod plays a seat-filler who finds a seat next to him Chris Reddof Will at this year’s Oscars. At first, he was excited to be around such a big celebrity as Will. However, Chris then joked about Jada Pinkett Smithshaved head, and you know what happens next…
When Redd returned to his seat, he tried to speak politely to Jerrod while shouting at Chris to keep his wife “name your mouth king” over and over. Check it out below:
Amidst all the Will Smith content, Gunna jumped on stage to perform Bank for me and Pushin P – with a special guest Future. Watch the performances (below):
