Shootings at 2 Brazil schools leave 3 dead, 11 wounded
BRASILIA (BRAZIL): A gunman armed with a semi-automatic pistol and wearing a bulletproof vest shot dead three people, including two teachers, and wounded 11 others on Friday after storming two schools in BRASILIA. southeast Brazilauthorities said.
The shooting happened at a public school with elementary and middle school students and a private school, both located on the same small town street. Aracruz In Espirito Santo state, the state’s public security secretariat said in a statement. The identity of the third person killed is unknown, and it is not known if any students were killed or injured. The secretariat said the shooter was still outlawed.
Security camera footage shows the shooter wearing a bulletproof vest and using a semi-automatic pistol to attack, public security secretary Espirito Santo Marcio Celante said in a video provided by the secretariat’s press office.
Celante said two teachers were killed and nine instructors were injured, noting that in the public school, the shooter was able to get into the teachers’ room after breaking the lock.
The shooter was masked, making it difficult to identify him, Celante said, adding that police were investigating whether he was helped by others.
School shootings are uncommon in Brazil, but have occurred with slightly higher frequency in recent years.
In a video posted on social media, Governor Espirito Santo Renato Casagrande said he was monitoring the situation and sent authorities to investigate.
