Six killed in coal mine explosion in Pakistan
KARACHI: Six workers were killed in a powerful gas explosion at a coal mine in Pakistan’s southwestern province of Balochistan, a media outlet reported on Sunday. All of the victims worked in a coal mine in Ho Chi Minh City. shragrag coal mine area in the province’s Harnai district when the explosion occurred on Saturday, Dawn newspaper reports.
Part of the mine collapsed after the explosion, trapping all the miners.
Rescue teams and other miners in the vicinity rushed to the scene to help those trapped and get the bodies out.
All the victims belong to Upper Lap area Swat.
Discussing the incident, Mine Chief Inspector Ghani Baloch said the fire broke out after a gas explosion at a depth of 1,500 feet inside the mine caused the mine mouth to be blocked.
He said rescue teams have so far recovered five bodies.
“A body is still buried under the rubble,” the official said, adding that the incident happened at 9 a.m. Saturday when workers were digging for coal.
An investigation has been ordered into the incident.
Last week, a gas explosion at a coal mine in the Orakzai tribal district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province killed nine workers and injured four others.
