I don’t often travel cross-country from New York to Los Angeles, but when I do travel, there’s one thing that makes walking through TSA and the six-hour plane ride afterward so much more comfortable. much. No, it’s not a tote bag with millions of compartments to hold all my knick-knacks (though, that helps). It’s also not a handy portable charger to keep my phone’s battery at 100% (although everyone should have one, IMO). Instead, it was the Sorel Kinetic RNEGD lace sneakers (currently $55)—and they’re 50% off right now.
I bought a pair after seeing Katie Holmes wearing the same shoes last fall. And while I initially thought these shoes were simply a great fashion statement piece in my wardrobe, they have turned into travel sneakers that keep my feet from getting tired during the day. trips back home to the West Coast.
Sneakers are built for everyday comfort and support—two things you should always look for when looking for travel shoes. A board-certified podiatrist, Dr. Suzanne Levine, DPM, RPT, PC., formerly told W+G, it’s important that the shoe is “light with a sturdy heel and well-cushioned with arch support to help absorb the natural impact of your feet.” And that’s exactly what you can expect wearing these shoes for a few hours.
In fact, from the moment you put them on, your feet feel like they’re walking on clouds. But this instant comfort is entirely by design. One part comes from the padded collar around the ankle, and the other half comes from the midsole, which is made of a unique algae-containing material called Bloom foam. The midfoot provides a nice springy effect so your foot can easily propel forward as you walk (or run), in times when you need to sprint to your end. Another bonus? You also don’t have to worry about sweaty feet thanks to the mesh upper that wraps around the top of your foot.
Another unique feature about these kicks is the one-inch heel and thick rubber outsole. While these features make the shoe look a bit wide, they also help provide a lot more stability as you walk and can even help relieve some of the pressure on your tendons due to the lightweight thickness. height.
But what really makes these shoes? The joy of traveling is their versatility and all-around comfort. And I mean they have the ability to support my legs when standing and sitting. The padding also extends to the entire bottom of my foot so I feel fully supported from heel to toe, so whether I’m walking through the airport or sitting for hours on a flight, My feet feel rested.
And because they’re so comfortable to walk in, they also make a great pair for everyday sneaking, especially if you’re going to be doing a lot of walking (which I usually live in New York City). For example, I wore them for two hours exploring Brooklyn, followed by a 1.5-hour permanent concert. It’s really no wonder Holmes loves these shoes so much.
