While managing John McCain’s 2008 campaign, Steve Schmidtdecided to remove the GOP’s vice presidential candidate, Sarah Palinunder the bus after losing the election with Barack ObamaI thought it was wrong.
Sure, gamble on Palin ended a bankruptcy, but Schmidt chose her, and had a tacit agreement of loyalty and discretion in a campaign. Just as smart legal defendants must present to their defense attorneys, candidates must tell their campaign manager everything. This leaves them vulnerable, which is why professionalism dictates secrecy the way a priest or a lawyer might. (Okay, maybe you don’t take everything to the grave, but you wait a few decades before writing a memoir.)
Schmidt disobeys these old-fashioned ethos, dumping all the filth of the Palin campaign in the media, and that sets him on a path that has made him phenomenally rich.
We may never know how much negative information leaked to the press about Palin came from inside the house, but Schmidt stood up to the biggest stage failure by helping write the first draft. in history.
As New York Times recorded in 2012Schmidt’s re-creation “was helped in large part by the book and the film Game changer, especially his sympathetic portrayal of him in Woody Harrelson’s film. ” Schmidt, continued, “stable in a lucrative and prominent existence suggests that he is the beneficiary of the kind of political revival [he] may have staged for a figure despised by the public. “
Of course, Palin is expendable. The above dish she may be waived. Besides, it was framed to defend McCain’s status as a heroic prisoner and outspoken reformer who always Wanted to choose Democratic Senator Joe Lieberman as his running mate. Schmidt can get away with betraying Palin, as long as he remains loyal to the famous man who corrected an older conservative voter Obama called Obama an “Arab.”
Now, 14 years after managing that failed race, and four years after McCain’s death (he was not invited to the funeral).
In recent days, Schmidt has alleging that McCain was engaged in a long-term “relationship” with a female lobbyist (as ever Hints in the campaign), and said he was so disillusioned with McCain that he didn’t even vote for him-even though run his campaign.
What impending event caused Schmidt to unburden himself in making this revelation? I mean, why now?
The motivation seems to be to avenge Meghan McCain liked a tweet Allegedly that Schmidt was running a “pedo racket.” Schmidt called attention to this on May 7, in the second tweet of a 11 parts of Twitter rant where he piled up a report on Meghan’s meager book sales. Just two days later, Schmidt’s attack on her father, John McCain, was announced. If the attack on Senator McCain was, in fact, aimed at hurting Meghan, it was a fraudulent move.
Just another example of Schmidt making dramatic changes, depending on where the wind is blowing.
In March 2016, Schmidt met Trump at Trump Tower “to join his campaign.” According to New York Post’s source, Trump was “very upset by the fact that Schmidt turned down McCain.” Schmidt later dismiss the meeting as merely “A chance for me to measure him, see what he is, see the reality of a man face to face.”
“You could also argue in general that he’s a political strategist who doesn’t know what’s going on right under his nose.”
Incidentally, the most lucrative move of Schmidt’s career was his decision to co-found an anti-Trump “conservative” group, the Lincoln Project, to raise money.the wealth of the generation. “He achieved that goal.
According to a February 11, 2021, report from Related press, “Of the $90 million the Lincoln Project has raised, more than $50 million has gone to companies controlled by the consortium’s leaders.” And “only about a third of the money, about $27 million, was paid directly for the ads that aired on television and cable, or appeared online, during the 2020 campaign.”
The report goes on to note that “Schmidt purchased a $1.4 million ‘Mountain Modern’ custom home in Kamas, Utah, with 5 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, and stunning views of the Uinta Mountains , according to property records and real estate listings. He is currently trying to sell the house for $2.9 million.”
Around the same time, Schmidt resigned from the board of the Lincoln Project, after it was reported that the co-founder John Weaver once sexually harassed young men. Schmidt claimed he was not previously aware of the allegations against Weaver, but there is some dispute about that request.
However, before resigning, Schmidt was less transparent.
“Project Lincoln would be delighted to open its books for an audit immediately after the Trump campaign, and all of its super PACs do,” he said. As PoliticoJohn Harris wrote“Trump’s willingness to submit, in fact, is a fundamental premise of Project Lincoln… The main difference, according to the founders of the Lincoln Project and much of their press coverage, is that they will do it. that’s on the side of the Good People.”
While Schmidt and the Lincoln Project teach the nation about morality, ethics, and decency, their home is clearly out of order. (Disclaimer: I have personally witnessed Schmidt’s tendency to imitate Trump, most famously when Schmidt compared your real and conservative writer Noah Rothman to “American Chamberlins” (sic) and “Vichy” France (aka Nazi collaborators.)
This is the guy who slammed Sarah Palin in the face of a national agency politician, admitted to covering up what he claimed were John McCain’s lies during the presidential election, and helped run an activist group political activism is no more than a little fundraising for him and himself. -congratulatory “conservative” friends. And yet, he even threw stones.
Furthermore, recently Schmidt tweeted that the Supreme Court was “The trust is completely broken and its discredited” after knowing the leaked opinion on Roedespite the fact that he is the “ran Roberts and Alito’s commits. ” And yet, he’s been portrayed by Woody Harrelson as some sort of rock star on HBO, which is a mix of political board shows from Meet the press arrive Real Time with Bill Maherand is regularly hosted by the liberal elite on networks like MSNBC.
You could also argue in general that he’s a political strategist who doesn’t know what’s going on right under his nose.
Schmidt thought he had identified a game-changing mate, but she turned out to be Palin. He thinks he’s working for a maverick, but he’s (according to Schmidt) actually a rogue. He is completely unaware that his business partner is sexually harassing young men, despite others are well aware of the information.
He looks like the DEA agent whose brother-in-law is Walter White in Break—Or Stan Beeman, the FBI agent who lives next to Russian spies on American. Completely forgotten.
Steve Schmidt is not the sharp and brilliant strategist as he always claims, or he is willing to look the other way for major blunders until it becomes inconvenient. And once that happens, he switches sides and cashes out. I will let you decide.
