Stop leaving Paddingtons and sandwiches as Queen tributes, mourners told | UK News


Mourning mourners in memory of the Queen have been asked to gently leave only the unwrapped flowers, as park officials seek to deal with the creative ways people have paid their respects. .

Royal Parks, the company that manages the designated London memorial site in Green Park, is urging the wise not to leave teddy bears, balloons or lit candles.

“For the sake of sustainability, we ask visitors to order only organic or compostable materials,” the charity said on its website.

It came about when videos were posted on social media of civic-minded people voluntarily removing plastic packages from flowers left by others.

Parks Royal says eliminating plastic packaging helps flowers last longer and is easier to compost.

Since the king’s death was announced on Thursday, thousands have come to Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and Balmoral to pay their respects.

They left gifts including teddy bears, Corgi soft toys, balloons and marmalade bread, in return Queen’s Platinum Anniversary Sketch with Paddington Bear.

The manager of a souvenir shop near Buckingham Palace said the number of customers buying memorabilia had doubled just after the Queen’s death.

The director of Cool Britannia, Ismial Ibrahim, described the vendors working overtime and the number of people who come to the store each day.

The 27-year-old said: “Since that evening we have had a very large number of people. The number of people landing has increased very high and since then people have started asking about anything related. regarding the Queen.”

Parks Royal says tags and labels are allowed, and will then be “separated from the flowers and stored”.

“Unfortunately, no gifts and artifacts will be accepted, and the public will be asked not to bring these to the park,” it added.

“Non-floral objects/artifacts such as teddy bears or balloons are not recommended.”

They added that lit candles are not accepted in the park and will be extinguished.

Funerals will be left on the grounds until all ceremonial activities are over, and flowers are expected to be removed from park areas seven to 14 days after the funeral.

The wilted flowers will be removed transparently and taken to the Hyde Park nursery for processing as compost.
