Texas A&M opens regional game with victory over ORU

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas-A double-clutch hit lifted the seventh- and fifth-place Texas A&M Aggies to an 8-2 win over Oral Roberts in the NCAA College Station Regional opening Friday afternoon in front of 6,215 fans at Blue Bell Park.
The Aggies (38-18) scored seven of their eight runs with two passes.
A&M led 1-0 in the second half when Jordan Thompson headed home the hosts twice, over the wall in the left half of the field.
The Aggies then extended their two-round lead at the end of season seven with a three-round two-round blast by Austin Bost deep into the left parking lot. Bost’s eighth round of the year pushed A&M’s advantage to 6-1.
Jack Moss added one more double, two double, two more in round eight to close the score.
Micah Dallas (6-3) went through five strong innings to win, launching seven hits and allowing only one run.
Joseph Menefee excelled in relief, finishing the sixth round with an attack when speed tied in the starting position and the seventh round with a knock-down punch with the game in second and third. He will complete his three rounds of work with three hits and one run while hitting seven.
Ledgend Smith (7-5) succumbed, allowing eight hits and three runs (earned twice) in 4.1 innings of work.
