Textile PLI 2.0 may be completed early next year

The government is likely to finalize the second version of the production linkage incentive scheme (PLI) for apparel, makeup and home document early next year, with a focus on promoting small and medium-sized entities, officials said Wednesday.

They said discussions are ongoing for PLI 2.0 with an investment threshold of 15 crore to 45 crore. These levels are lower than the previous round for technical textiles and man-made fibers, where the minimum investment required is ₹100 crore and ₹300 crore.

“We encourage capital and machinery in the first version of PLI but this time, we are looking at small and medium-sized entities,” said an official. Under the first plan, 32 companies have started to invest ₹1,500- 1,700 crore, officials said.

The Ministry of Textiles and Apparel has approved 64 applications under the ₹19,798 crore scheme.

PLI 2.0 for the textile industry is under review as the ministry has an unused budget of Rs 4,000.

Bed linen and textile accessories such as lace, buttons and zippers can be covered under this fabric.
