MANILA, Philippines—Malacañang is reportedly looking for a new president for the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), just four months after appointing Noli Eala to the position.
And Dino Aldeguer, the former La Salle basketball star in UAAP two decades ago, is said to be very high on the very short list of candidates for the top spot of the government’s sports sponsorship agency. .
The Inquirer learned about the development from three separate trusted sources, all of whom spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not in a position to speak on the matter.
Sources said that the appointment of Aldeguer is pending the signature of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Eala, a former PBA commissioner, was commissioned by Malacañang on August 30 last year. But nearly 120 days since, the Office of the President has yet to fill three positions on the four-man board of commissioners, previously appointed bowling Hall of Fame member Bong Coo.
“What I do know is that the post was recommended to Dino,” a source revealed. “Only some details are being worked out.”
Another source added that Eala was “appointed during the term of [former executive secretary] Vic Rodriguez is his biggest disadvantage here. And we know that the basketball player (Aldeguer) has a mark inside (as Eala’s replacement).”
47-year-old Aldeguer, whose college basketball career was marked by a Hail Mary three-pointer in Game 3 of the 1999 UAAP Finals against the University of Santo Tomas, the game that eventually led to his fifth title. two of the Green Archers’ four consecutive titles under Franz Pumaren, could not be reached for comment.
