Netflix is opening the palace for Crown season 6. Show creator Peter Morgan reversed course in his decision to end the royal drama after its fifth season. “When we started discussing the plot for Series 5, it was clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story, we should have gone back to the original plan and made six seasons.” Morgan said in a statement, passing Diversity. Netflix UK also tweeted Morgan’s comment, announcing that a sixth season is coming.
Morgan’s change of heart is his second in relation to season six. Back in January, Morgan said“From the very beginning, I imagined Crown ran for six seasons but now that we’ve started working on the stories for season 5, it’s clear to me that this is the perfect time and place to stop. I am grateful to Netflix and Sony for supporting me in this decision. “Now it seems his composing work has brought him back to his original direction.

Season 6 will explore the early 2000s.

It is likely that season 6 will document the death of Princess Diana in a car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997, as well as the 2002 deaths of Princess Margaret and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. Those actors will take on Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth, Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret, Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip, Emma Corrin as Princess Dianaand Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles, all ending their royal reigns with season 4. As per show practice, each actor plays their role for two seasons.
In September 2022, the performers announced casting for young versions of Kate Middleton and Prince William. Two actors will play William in season 6, 16-year-old Rufus Kampa and 21-year-old Ed McVey. Both actors are relative newbies, although McVey has made regular appearances on stage in London. Meg Bellamy will play Kate Middleton. Both she and Kampa were discovered after sending casting tapes for an open call on social media.
There is no official release date.
Official release date for CrownThe final season is yet to be confirmed. Based on Limit line, season 5 won’t premiere until 2022 and will begin production next June. The magazine also reports that season 6 will begin filming in 2022, which means there will most likely be a premiere in 2023.
Season 4 of the Emmy-winning series premiered on November 15, including Gillian Anderson as Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and the arrival of Princess Diana.
