The Hollywood Reporter Wins Top Journalist at SoCal Journalism Awards – The Hollywood Reporter
The Hollywood Reporter won 10 awards at the 64th Southern California Press Awards Saturday night, including print journalist of the year for Seth Abramovitch and best columnist for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Taking place at the Sheraton Universal Hotel, the event distributed awards from the Los Angeles Press Club. Categories include TV and film criticism, crime reporting, investigative journalism, art and photography, news and online features, etc.
THR’s’ title follows 39 nominations, which were announced in May. Abramovitch, who was named print journalist of the year (more than 50,000 copies in circulation), also won best entertainment film for “Finding Shelley Duvall”. Abdul-Jabbar was awarded the best magazine columnist for the seventh year in a row.
Additionally, Gary Baum won best investigative magazine story for “Drugs, death, and rejection in rehab for the rich” and Rebecca Sun won the magazine character biography, character award. Best film/TV for “The Resurrection of Kelly Marie Tran”. Baum, Sun and Katie Kilkenny won Best Lifestyle Print for “Hollywood’s Favorite Pole Dance Studio Undo.”
For the art/photography categories, Ash Barhamand, Jenny Sargent, Kayla Landrum and Lia Clay Miller won Best Entertainment Portraiture for “Billy Porter: Here’s an HIV Positive Image”; Barhamand, Landrum, AB + DM Studio, Ahmad Barber and Donte Maurice won Best Entertainment Photo for “House of Gaga”; and Peter Cury, Kelsey Stefanson and Eric Heintz won best cover for “Everybody Just Knows He’s An Absolute Monster: Ex-Scott Rudin Employee Speaks Out About Abuse”.
In the online categories, Aaron Couch was presented with the Personality Profile, Best Film/TV Character Award for “The Ultimate Spider-Man Collection Sold Under Heartbreaking Circumstances”.
Other special honorees of the night included Jamie Masada, founder and owner of Laugh Factory, and 60 minutes’ Bill Whitaker, who was presented by Rita Moreno.
