June officials are over and many of the top prospects in the country are now making college decisions throughout July. That was the case with Kentucky’s No. 1 athlete in South Warren (Ky.) Sunday. Christian Conyer.
Last month, the four-star star made an official visit to two shows he is so familiar with in Kentucky and Tennessee.
It was an intense recruiting battle between the SEC East competitors, but the Tennessee Volunteers team eventually landed a talented 6-foot-1 prospect who was expected to become a Defensive defender to the next level.
Conyer went into depth about Tennessee’s decision to take the class with Rivals.com shortly after his announcement.
– When he knew Tennessee was the right choice:
“Actually, yesterday afternoon (Saturday) was when I really took them apart and picked a school. It was a tough process along the way, but I felt at home in Tennessee and I felt it. is a better environment for me to take my participation to the next level.”
– On what separates Tennessee from the group:
“It’s really just a good coaching staff that’s been there for a year, so they don’t plan to stop. They plan to go ahead and win that national championship and I’ll be there with them.”
– About his strongest relationships with Tennessee employees:
“Definitely Coach Heup (Josh Heupel) and Coach Nez (Willie Martinez). I talk to them every day. Every morning they text me ‘good morning’ and I text them and we split up and I usually call them later in the day. I really feel like they’re my coach already.”
“They’re really regulars and Coach Nez has brought a lot of people into the league and done a lot in the SEC. He may be a real cocky coach, but he’s the one. a really bad coach.”
– On what coaches like about his skill set and ability in defence:
“It’s just my speed, my length, my dribbling skills and my ability to dribble and lock the receiver completely.”
– On his relationship with current Tennessee players:
“My player host is Elijah Herring and I’ve played with a lot of Tennessee players on our 7v7 team in the past since I was in 8th grade. Those are my brothers, So why not finish what we started.”
– About his recruiting efforts for future Volunteers:
“Francis Mauigoa, Jordan Matthewsand Ja’Keem Jackson. You know where home is. “
