The Weeknd Drops HBO Max Series ‘The Idol’ Trailer Starring Lily-Rose Depp in Hollywood Music Industry
It promises to be “Hollywood’s worst love story,” brimming with sex, cocaine, and booze in darkened rooms.
At a Saturday night concert, Weekend premiered the trailer for his new show, Idol. Set to stream on HBO Max, the series follows the life of a pop star, run by Lily-Rose Deppwhen she falls into a romantic relationship with a Los Angeles club owner and cult leader, played by Weeknd herself.
Hosted by Happiness director Sam Levinson as well as rap icon, Idol will immerse viewers in what is teased to be the erotic and chaotic alternate world of the modern music industry. As the narrator, who is presumably directing a dance rehearsal, ordering us to “lick it, spank it, drop it,” the characters do just that, in a pair of white panties. pleats fall to the floor.
“Camera, money!” bellows instructor. Hundred-dollar bills appeared on the screen, then artfully lit bubbles, a knife, and a grapefruit. Electronic music pulls in the trailer, a constant stream of booze and lust for destruction.
Idol The cast boasts other big names, including Troye Sivan and Tunde Adebimpe. A six-episode mini-series, the show will bring drug-fueled music to our living rooms, albeit for a short time. Though an official start date hasn’t been announced, the trailer, in blocky red letters, swears by the show’s “coming soon”—and with it lots of ravishing scenery.
