The holiday season has arrived and with it comes the good news. (See what we did there?) Whether it’s heading to one of the many lavishly decorated Christmas bars and sipping seasonal cocktails, strolling through handcrafted holiday markets or simply enjoying the fresh air while Seeing the brightest (and most beautiful) lights in your city, there’s no denying that this time of year can spark the magic in all of us.
It might even inspire you to not only shop for yourself and loved ones, but find ways to give back to your community. And breaking news: You don’t have to pay anything extra—just a little sweat and a new app on your smartphone.
Say hello to Vizer, a free app that encourages users to get up and move. When you download the app (available on iOS and Android devices), you can track qualifying activities, such as walking 10,000 steps, exercising for 30 minutes, or taking a class in the studio partners, such as Orangetheory Fitness. After an activity is recorded, you can click Donate and the folks at Vizer work with US food banks to donate a meal in your honor to people in need. You can then rinse and repeat, starting over the next day for another meal. (You only need to click the Donate button before midnight because the app refreshes every day and the donated meals don’t carry over.)
That’s not all: For every meal donated, you earn one point. Vizer Points can be redeemed about healthy brands like Coconut smoothy, Core foodand olipops at participating local partners that you can find in the app. They are listed close to your location, so you won’t have to search around to redeem them. That said, since Vizer is still relatively new, its live services are most abundant in major metropolitan areas.
Needless to say, if you’ve ever needed a little extra motivation to keep going pretty girl walkingMeditate and skip through the main Ashtanga yoga series or sign up for an All Out With Aoki class at your local Orangetheory studio, Vizer is here to help.
