Thursday is the new Monday as hybrid-work patterns shift

Hybrid workers are settling into the twice-weekly stay-at-home model, but those aren’t the days you’d expect. While many companies’ Flexible work plan managed to get people into the office Tuesday through Thursday, and homemade Mondays and Fridays, it turns out that workers stay home more often on Thursdays. That’s according to new data from WFH Research, a group of academics, including Stanford Universityby Nicholas Bloom, who compiled data on the actions and attitudes of tens of thousands of people American workers from epidemic started.
Friday has ranked as the most popular day to work from home over the past six months, closely followed by Thursday, while Wednesday is the most popular day to be at work.
The findings show how work samples continues the nearly three-year transition into the pandemic, while reinforcing how difficult it is for companies to enforce strict return-to-office regulations, especially in a tight labor market. strictly strict. Peloton Interactive Inc. are among employers that have called employees back to work Tuesday through Thursday, while other large employers, such as Apple Inc., want employees to work Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Thursdays. an additional date will be determined by each group individually.
Apple’s previous plan called for in-person work on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, a sign that companies often modify so-called RTO plans based on actual office usage. and employee feedback.
For example, office occupancy data from security firm Kastle Systems Inc. for October in 10 major US cities have shown that midweeks are by far the most popular days to be at the office. A recent report from Relogix, which provides occupancy analysis for organizations, also found Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays to be the “most preferred days to go to the office” in both North America and Europe. So the move to Thursday as a popular teleworking day has experts confused. “It’s surprising that Thursday and Friday are now dominant, and Monday is Tuesday,” Bloom said.
According to the WFH Research team, of those who are able to work from home, half have settled into some sort of combined routine. Just under a third are entirely on-site, while just over a fifth are entirely remote. Bloom’s team found that Thursday and Friday were the most popular combination of days away among people working two days from home, followed by Monday and Friday.
