Two police officers suffered life-threatening injuries following an accident in Suffolk.

Officers were in a police car that collided with a BMW on board a B1112 in Eriswell on Sunday afternoon.

They were taken to Addenbrooke Hospital in Cambridge by land ambulance with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the BMW, a man in his 20s, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Suffolk Police said he was taken to West Suffolk Hospital as a precaution and then taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Center for questioning, where he remains.

It is understood that the two officers did not answer the emergency call and were not pursuing the BMW at the time of the collision.
