(Update) R. Kelly started suicide tracking even though his lawyer said he didn’t commit suicide
With R kellyGiven his recent 30-year prison sentence for his sex-trafficking and federal fraud case, many have shared their thoughts on when he was brought out. On Friday, his lawyer revealed that he had been placed on suicide watch, even though he did NOT commit suicide.
CNN reports that the troubled singer has been placed on suicide watch in federal custody, where he is currently being held behind bars. His lawyer Jennifer Bonjean reassurethat he did NOT commit suicide, make it clear,
“The irony is that putting someone on a suicide watch when they’re not suicidal is that it actually causes more harm.”
Bonjean said prosecutors said he was put on the suicide list because he was famous. She added,
“It’s the punishment for being senior. And it was horrifying. Letting someone commit suicide under those conditions is cruel and unusual when they don’t need it.”
She went on to say that she asked Kelly to email her after he received the verdict on Wednesday, however, she never heard from him. She said she did not receive any response from the detention facility until prosecutors requested information from the facility.
As many of you know, Kelly was guilty by a federal grand jury last September in his federal fraud and sex trafficking case.
After receiving a 30-year prison sentence, the conditions on if/when he was released were revealed. A judge ordered him to receive mental health treatment, including therapy for unspecified sexual dysfunction. He will also be ordered to stay away from anyone under the age of 18. He will also be ordered to notify anyone who chooses to live with him that he is a sex offender.
May people around the world weigh in on Kelly’s sentencing. He still faces another federal trial and two state trials.
