US House of Representatives panel recommends criminal prosecution against former president Donald Trump

The congressional committee investigating last year’s attack on the US Capitol recommended on Monday that criminal charges be filed against former president Donald Trump.
The House panel unanimously called on the Justice Department to prosecute Trump for incitement to insurrection, obstruction of an official due process, conspiracy to defraud the US government and making false statements.
“The committee has developed significant evidence that President Trump intends to disrupt our Constitutional peaceful transition of power,” Representative Jamie Raskin said as he outlined the committee findings.
“We believe the evidence described today by my colleagues and gathered throughout our hearings warrants the criminal prosecution of former President Donald J. Trump,” Raskin said. .
The committee’s recommendations to the Justice Department will conclude with a special counsel appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland to examine Trump’s role in the Capitol riots and his efforts to overturn it. 2020 presidential election won by Democrat Joe Biden.
