Vessel runs aground in Egypt’s Suez Canal, restart efforts underway
CAIRO (Reuters) – A ship has run aground in the Suez Canal, “abandoning” at least four vessels, shipping agent Leth Agencies said early Thursday.
The company said the Suez Canal tugs were trying to revive the vessel, Xin Hai Tong 23.
There was no immediate comment from Canal authorities.
“M/V PLEASE TWO TONG 23 ran aground in the Suez Canal at KM 159/400 hrs,” Leth Agencies said in a tweet, adding that “4 ships from the early convoy in addition to the usual group were boarded. plans to enter the Suez Canal around 0600 hours.”
Marine Traffic and Refinitiv vessel tracking data shows the Hong Kong-flagged vessel, “uncommanded” near the southern end of the channel, positioned at an eastern edge of the channel.
