Well Go USA has acquired all North American rights to Japanese director Kensuke Sonomura’s hit crime thriller Bad city.
The sequel to this genre director’s killer thriller Hydra from last year, Bad City will screen at Austin’s Fantastic Fest on Friday, followed by a competitive slot at Sitges in October.
Well Go will first release the film via martial arts expert streamer Hi-YAH! as a Hi-YAH! The original, followed by a theatrical release and a wider VOD release later this year.
The film is set in the city of Kaiko, a place divided by rampant corruption and violence between a private corporation, the yakuza, and even the government. Well Go is well known for its regular release of edgy action titles from across Asia in North America, with recent selling titles including the Korean Peninsula zombie sequel, Hong Kong’s Better Days or Japan’s First Love by Takashi Miike.
