Everyone’s favorite reality celebrity mom, Jennifer Garner, recently went viral with a very easy to understand “what’s in my bag” video she posted on Instagram. Usually, I find these types of videos boring and irrelevant. Celebrities and other celebs share the insides of their $3,500 Chanel purse, and it’s always something unrealistic aspirational, such as a thermos full of smoothies. homemade, a pair of designer sunglasses, a healthy breakfast bar made from scratch that morning, an unused item. magazines, etc.
I’m sorry, but nobody’s tote bag really looks like that all the time. And Garner knows it. After returning from a trip with her children, the actress posted a post “what’s in my bag?” video, but this one is actually real. That’s what all of our bags look like. She rummages through her bag to reveal what’s inside: A Twix stick, multiple tangled chargers, pharmacy reading glasses, a bra (?), a single plastic fork, a paring knife. pencils and finally a stack of loose M&Ms—which her friend Reese Witherspoon particularly liked and commented, “It’s random M&M to me.”
And though, to be sure, the content is fun and humorous—Garner’s distinctive brand of “trustworthy mother”—it was her quilted black bag that immediately caught the eye. mine. It’s exactly the kind of roomy tote bag I needed, especially during vacation travel. Jennifer doesn’t mention the brand name, but I went on Google and did some internet research and found it: It’s MZ Wallace’s Medium Metro Deluxe Tote Handbag, and it’s $275 on Nordstrom.com.
It’s made of lightweight quilted nylon (aka easy to clean!) and comes in seven different colors—but I prefer the classic black (also Jen’s pick). I like how soft the material is because it makes it easy to fold and put in your suitcase. Wallets are notoriously one of the most difficult items to pack because they take up a lot of space. And I love that there are a lot of interior pockets and a removable inner pocket.
One Nordstrom reviewer praised: “I love this bag, especially when traveling. It weighs almost nothing and has plenty of pockets to organize, including a handy pocket on the outside designed to hold your phone.” That got me wondering, why aren’t there more pockets than there are top pockets outside to keep your phone? It makes accessing a lot easier instead of having to rummage through your wallet.
Another reviewer also liked how spacious it was. “I love it—it’s light, spacious, has lots of pockets, and holds everything I need: from a large notebook to an umbrella.” Many reviewers also love that it has an optional crossbody strap, which I also like in a travel bag because you want to keep your hands free when carrying your suitcase.
Also, the phrase “mom bag” gets a bad reputation, but really it just means a roomy tote bag big enough to hold your life. And we all have a fulfilling life, motherhood or not, so anyone can use a mom bag.
