Where will StudioMDHR go after Cuphead? ‘The sky is the limit’
StudioMDHR has been working Cuphead one way or another for over a decade now. However, with Delicious Last Course coming soon, StudioMDHR has to look to the future. Is it possible to have more Cupheads after Cuphead?
According to Maja Moldenhauer, StudioMDHR had to work on Delicious Last Course because it still had a lot of Cupheads on the cutting room floor after the first one. Elements like the playable Miss Chalice and the many new Delicious Last Course bosses, are ideas born during the development of the original game that needed the extra time of a DLC to see the light of day. .
But now, with Delicious Last Course wrapped up, Moldenhauer says there’s nothing left to sit on the drawing board somewhere. “We’ve got it all.”
So that leaves StudioMDHR, a studio that has been nothing but Cuphead since 2010? Moldenhauer confirmed that while this is indeed the end of Cuphead ‘Don’t Deal with Demons’, it is certainly not the end for the studio’s work. She has yet to give specifics on whether sentient wine pots will return in the future, but she did offer a clue:
“The sky is the limit,” she said. “We have a lot of ideas in mind about where we want to go, what we want to do. I will say that we love 2D animation. We love pencil and paper, but beyond that, it can go anywhere. ”
Whatever Moldenhauer has up her sleeve, it’s likely to take quite a while before we see it due to the long development cycles of both Cuphead and Delicious Last Course – a fact Moldenhauer isn’t too worried about, as long as it means the team at StudioMDHR is taken care of.
