What do Helen Mirren, Jon Hamm, Whitney Port and Well + Good have in common? We like to think about it a lot, but one thing we all have in common is that we all love Cariuma sneakers. The celebrity-favorite brand of sneakers — Chris Martin, Robert Downey Jr., Pete Davidson and Nina Agdal have also been photographed in them — has garnered attention in recent years with its long waiting lists. their thousands. We’re here to confirm: The hype is worth it.
We recently introduced Cariuma’s IBI Slip On sneakers, and now we’ve tried a pair of their classic lace-up sneakers, the IBI. The IBI is the perfect blend of style and sustainability, with unmatched versatility, making the rest of my shoe collection the envy of. Sorry, different shoes (less comfortable and practical). They can rest for a while, as IBI comes along – dare we say? – every outfit and nearly every situation. A sheer dress and denim jacket, of course. Of course, a pair of leggings and an oversized sweater. Line up security at the airport, when you want a pair of shoes you can easily put on and take off for TSA? Sure.
While versatility is a must for an everyday sneaker, the benefits of IBI don’t stop there. You will be really impressed by how light they are, making them easy to wear all day and equally comfortable when packed in already tight luggage. We’ve all been there, struggling to throw our luggage into the overhead compartment. If you don’t choose to wear them while traveling, they will definitely lighten your luggage load.
Another perk: They’re sliding. While we are fully capable of lacing our shoes and have been since kindergarten, it was a pleasant surprise to learn that the IBI can be easily put on and off. They give you a snuggled look without actually having to bend down and tie (and tie) them thanks to the perfectly stretchy laces and non-slip heel tab.
My favorite privilege, however, is that IBIs feel comfortable right out of the box. Serious. Since they’re made of a flexible knit and fit to the exact size, there aren’t any gaps in time. The number of times I leave the house for an ambitious walk in my new shoes is truly shameful. I hobbled home, then tended to break out in pimples thanks to a comfortable but undamaged pair of shoes. Not so with IBI. They were ready to go for a walk the first time I tried them on. A shoe miracle!
They also leave a slight mark on the environment, unmatched in the world of sneakers. It’s silly to think about, but the sneakers on it are considered one of the most wasteful garments. Think about it: Usually they’re filled with virgin plastic, dubious leather, toxic dyes, and lots (!) of cardboard and plastic packaging. Your old couples may be living in landfills and will be around for years to come.
That’s where Cariuma comes in. The Rio de Janeiro-based company is serious about its sustainability efforts. IBI is 100% vegan, knitted with naturally derived materials, like regenerated bamboo and organic cotton, from heel to toe. The shoelaces are even made from recycled plastic bottles.
The brand is equally thoughtful in its superfast, carbon-free shipping methods. If you buy a pair, they will come in the box on their own. (Not a box in a box but perhaps in another box with loads of packaging that will go straight to the trash.) If you order multiple pairs, they will use the right box and minimal packaging. In addition, every time they buy a pair of Cariuma shoes, they plant a pair of trees in Brazil.
The highlights don’t end there either. They are also machine washable! I knew what I was looking for when I added another pair of white sneakers to my shoe collection. They look blinding white until you enter the house, after which they collect all the dirt, scum and possible odors. IBIs, thankfully, just need a quick cycle in your washing machine, then voila! Good almost new.
However, perhaps at the top of the “why we love IBI sneakers” list is the simplest: They look great. While I played it safe by opting for the white IBIs, I’ve noticed a few other bolder pairs that will be joining my shoe collection soon. The IBI is available in 17 colors, including a range of neutrals as well as some not-so-fade-dark heart colors. The red knitter is begging to come home with me, and I keep an eye on the green knit, too. I can imagine my mother loving a pair of beige sands, and my stylish eight-year-old goddaughter rocking a sun-yellow knit.
Unisex designs are available for both men and women, from size 5 to size 13, including half sizes. They fit just right, for both me and many reviewers — a rarity in today’s shoe world!
