The former WCW world heavyweight champion was set to kick off the show, but he was nowhere behind the scenes when the show aired. He showed up a few minutes later completely dazed and unsteady.
In a recent interview with Buddy wrestlingformer WWE writer Vince Russo shared that Vader was below the RAW stage when the pyro kicked in to start the show. He had no serious injuries and was able to play in his match.
“I guess the funniest backstory that brother will never forget is the very funny thing is, we were going to go live with RAW and Vader was in the first match. And all We’re both in the gorilla position and Vader is nowhere to be found. And Vince [McMahon] we’re screaming to the top of our lungs and we’re counting down to 5-4-3-2… man, we’re hitting the pyre, we’re playing Vader’s music, we don’t know where he is. “(1:18:15-1:18:50)
Vince Russo continued:
“Suddenly, he came out from underneath the stage, literally jumping off the wall without knowing where he was. Man, he was down on stage when the pyre disappeared. So whether that’s the case. he’s heating up down there, what is he doing, man, the brother exploded right next to him, he really went deaf (1:18:51-1:19:30)
Vader was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in April of this year
Mastodon is considered one of the greatest men in wrestling history. He has held many top titles in his career such as the IWGP Heavyweight, IWGP Tag Team, WCW World Heavyweight and WCW United States Heavyweight Championship.
During his career, he shared the ring with many famous stars such as The Undertaker, Sting and Hulk Hogan. After he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame during WrestleMania 38 weekend.
