NUSA DUA: Now is the time to end Russia’s “destructive” war and “save thousands of lives,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said at the G20 summit in Bali via video address on Tuesday.
“I believe now is the moment when Russia’s war of sabotage must and can be ended,” he said, according to a statement obtained by AFP. “It will save thousands of lives.”
Wearing a familiar military green T-shirt and speaking in Ukrainian, Zelenskyy addressed leaders including Xi Jinping of China and US President Joe Biden.
However, Russian President Vladimir Putin was not in the room, as he stayed away from the meeting and sent Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to Bali instead.
Zelenskyy criticized the “crazy threats of nuclear weapons used by Russian officials”, referring to Putin’s dark words that upset even Beijing.
“There is and cannot be any excuse for nuclear blackmail,” he added, clearly thanking the “G19” – with the exception of Russia – for “clarifying this”.
The Ukrainian leader also called for an indefinite extension and extension of the grain agreement brokered by the United Nations and Turkey, which expires on November 19.
Ukraine is one of the world’s top grain producers, and Russia’s invasion blocked 20 million tons of grain at its ports until an agreement was reached in July.
“I believe our grain export initiative deserves an indefinite extension – regardless of when the war ends,” Zelenskyy said, urging expansion to other ports.
The Ukrainian leader also accused Russia of a “conspiracy to turn the cold into a weapon” with a campaign to attack critical infrastructure before the coming winter.
Zelenskyy also supported a US-led effort to limit the price of Russian oil exports “so that energy resources can no longer be used as weapons.”
“If Russia is trying to deprive Ukraine, Europe and all of the world’s energy consumers of predictability and price stability, the answer to this is to force a restriction on export prices. with Russia.”
